What causes hair loss in men?
The problem of hair loss is certainly a very sensitive issue both for men and women. Hair is a good indicator of how healthy a person is, and if the person starts to get bald it is seen as either a sign of poor health or aging. Of course, it’s not always so and in case of male balding it’s often seen as a matter of genetic predisposition or poor hair nutrition. But how relevant these assumptions are to the actual causes behind hair loss in men?
A large number of scientific and clinical studies on the problem of hair loss in men have come to the same conclusion that there’s a reason for male pattern hair loss other than what was assumed before. Yes, genetics, nutrition, care and environment play an important role in maintaining a good condition of hair. But the majority of male hair loss cases have been observed to be caused by hormonal changes. And it’s not about a particular glad dysfunction or hormonal imbalance. It’s all about one of the most important male hormones – testosterone.
But it’s not the abundance of shortage of testosterone that really matters. Of course, the level of testosterone in general influences many aspects of a man’s health. But when it comes to hair loss, it’s the way testosterone is processed that really matters. Usually, testosterone is converted into another male hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), after some time. And it’s the DHT that’s responsible for hair loss in men. When there’s a small quantity of this androgen in the bloodstream there’s nothing to worry about. But as it accumulates in the body and starts contacting with hair follicles it gradually stops natural hair growth and makes the follicles weaker. By having a low natural hair growth rate a person will gradually start balding because of the normal hair loss rate (100-200 hairs per day). Usually, the lost hair gets restored rapidly and we have a constant form of hair. But as the follicles get weaker, the usual hair loss becomes a real problem.
Some studies that focused on the genetic causes of male pattern hair loss have also concluded that in cases where hair loss problems have passed through generations it was also due to the abundant production of DHT that seems to pass from father to son. So it’s clear that hair loss in men is generally caused by the levels of DHT. But what can be done about it?
In fact, there’s only one actual medication that can help with DHT and it’s called Propecia. This medication is by far the only one available for treating male pattern hair loss and it works by affecting the actual cause behind the condition. Propecia blocks specific enzymes that are responsible for the conversion of testosterone into DHT and thus reduces the effects of this androgen over the hair follicles. However, like with any prescription medication you should first consult with your doctor regarding its use. It is also to be used only by adult men, as children and women shouldn’t even handle the drug due to its high absorption abilities and hormonal changes it can cause in children and unborn babies.
ED in Younger Men
In younger men erectile dysfunction is relatively uncommon, but there are still cases. Find out the possible ED causes in younger men.
How common is ED in younger men?
In your late teens and early twenties, you should be at your physical peak in all aspects of life. So if you are experiencing erectile dysfunction, this suggests either an existing injury or psychological problems. Indeed, ED is usually related to age, affecting more men as they pass beyond sixty. Doctors estimate psychological problems are the cause in up to 25% of men under the age of forty. However, a second statistic should give you cause for thought. About 75% of men with diabetes suffer erectile dysfunction. With an increasing number of young men overweight, diabetes is becoming more common, followed by sexual problems.
What are the main causes?
Artherosclerosis is the most common physical cause of ED, i.e. a build-up of plaque on the walls of the penile artery caused by excessive levels of carbohydrates in the blood. So if you are overweight and have high blood pressure, this cause of ED can be treated by changing your diet and exercising. The evidence from the clinical trials is clear. Losing weight, eating healthy food and increasing activity levels restores sexual function. Because nicotine causes artherosclerosis, smokers are 1.5 times more likely to suffer erectile dysfunction than non-smokers. Alcoholism and drug abuse also cause sexual problems. Recent studies have found up to 25% of younger men have low levels of testosterone which can reduce the libido. The remaining problems are related to stress.
Psychological problems
Although life has always presented challenges to the young, the modern faster-paced lifestyles have exposed them to far more stress. When you add in traumatic events like the death of a parent or loved one, sexual problems are a common result. Although it can be difficult for younger people to admit a problem, this is one occasion when it helps to discuss matters with a trained professional. This may be for psychological or grief counseling. Unless and until the psychological problems are resolved, it is unlikely your sex drive and erections will return. So relying on Viagra alone in emotionally troubled times is unlikely to produce results.
Summing up
The Mayo Clinic has a very simple prescription when younger men find their erections fail. This starts with the usual advice to reduce the amount of alcohol and quit smoking. All drug abuse should cease and everyone should switch to a healthy diet. We then get into the need for a reasonable amount of sleep and active steps to deal with depression or anxiety. In all this, your regular physician is an essential partner. You need a full range of tests to decide whether you also need preventive treatment to reduce the risk of heart disease and prevent diabetes from becoming a permanent problem. This is not something you should try treating on your own with only Viagra to help.
For Miracle Drug, ED Just Beginning
Because PDE5 inhibitors are so famous for their incredible ability to restore erections, people are often surprised to learn that they are useful for much more than that! The first of these types of erectile dysfunction medications was initially developed to treat angina, but once researchers learned of its special erectile properties, they pursued a pattern for ED. However, in the years since the famous blue pill has been on the market, doctors have continued to test its abilities and have learned it is one of the most versatile, useful drugs around.
Read on to see some of the amazing uses for your erectile dysfunction treatment.
Recovering from Jet Lag
Scientists in Buenos Aires discovered that PDE5, a common body chemical associated with erectile dysfunction, breaks down cGMP, which plays an important part in the regulation of the internal clock. When there are certain types of light changes, the clock will become distorted. This is what causes jet lag.
In order to put this knowledge to use in recovering faster from jet lag or preventing it entirely, doctors are turning to PDE5 inhibitors, which are known for treating erectile dysfunction. As of 2008, this treatment is already in use.
Lowering High Blood Pressure
Part of the initial research for the now famous erectile dysfunction drugs was to treat high blood pressure. The drugs actually do this quite effectively, though other medications may be preferred for various reasons. However, PDE5is are actually quite commonly used since it does multiple things for patients.
Helping Stroke Patients Recover
The effects of sildenafil in helping stroke patients recover are still being studied, but earlier studies have been promising. Doctors think that medical treatment within three days of the stroke could help patients recover speech, thinking, and movement more quickly. It does this by aiding cGMP in creating new brain cells.
Helping Underweight Fetuses
When a pregnant woman has intrauterine growth restriction, the baby is often born smaller than expected. Since doctors can see this condition well before birth, they think that treating while the mother is still carrying the fetus may increase chances for a healthy birth. Erectile dysfunction medications may increase blood supply to the womb. This increased flow allows for better nutrition and oxygen availability. There is a chance otherwise underweight babies will be born of a healthy size.
Fighting Degeneration in Multiple Sclerosis Patients
Multiple sclerosis (MS) effects hundreds of thousands of people in the United States, mostly women, and is a deadly debilitating condition. It affects patients through degenerating the nervous system. Studies from Auburn University suggest that Viagra may prevent some of that degeneration.
Improving Memory and Learning
Increased blood flow and better glucose processing, as well as modified levels of cGMP, are often results of Viagra use. These things can potentially increase learning ability or keep mental faculties higher for longer. This may slow the effects of aging and be an important treatment for Alzheimer’s patients.
Preventing Gangrene in Raynaud’s Patients
Raynaud’s phenomenon is a common and extremely painful condition that is caused by poor blood flow to the extremities, especially the fingers. Viagra may increase the blood flow enough to restore healthy circulation and prevent gangrene. In some patients in the Maryland study, their symptoms disappeared entirely.
Relief for Sports Injury Pain
For a professional athlete, a sports injury can mean the end of their career and sometimes a major change in their lives. For those who simply enjoy a variety of sports in their leisure time or those who rely on playing sports for regular exercise, a sports injury can mean anything from a temporary inconvenience to a permanent disability.
A sports injury can turn a lucrative career into zero income in a split second. No matter how much effort an athlete – whether a Saturday player or a professional – puts into keeping him/herself in shape: warming up, cooling down, knowing when to quit, doing the roadwork, unfortunately, accidents do happen. And when they do, hindsight is of no aid.
So if you are facing the worst case scenario: a sports injury – what do you do next?
That depends on the extent of your injury and the amount of pain you are dealing with. Some injuries are minor and their effects are not lasting. But if your injury is not improving and/or you are dealing with a nearly unbearable pain, then you know you need help. At that point, your doctor may recommend a pain killer to bring you relief.
I’m in Pain: What Now?
If you are suffering from chronic pain from a sports injury, your doctor may recommend ultram/tramadol to bring you relief. Ultram/tramadol is an analgesic pain reliever that is used for blocking many different kinds of pain. It releases serotonin, which changes the way pain messages are transmitted in your body. Ultram/tramadol can be used as a general pain reliever or for the relief of chronic pain. It is used to mitigate moderate to severe pain. Ultram can block your pain no matter what its point of origin, which is one of the reasons it is used for a variety of sports injuries.
Doctors choose ultram/tramadol for patients they know will be on pain relievers for extended periods of time. That is because ultram doesn’t have the side effects of similar types of medications like morphine and codeine. It can be taken in time release capsules, too, which dispense their relief over prolonged periods without as many side effects.
Injuries Ultram/Tramadol Treats
Common sports injuries involve pulling muscles, spraining ankles, fracturing or breaking wrists and ankles, damage to the muscles through improper, sudden, vigorous movements or hits. In addition, tendons, ligaments, bones and joints are at risk from a variety of mishaps. Joints, tendons and ligaments can be sprained or strained, bones can be broken, shoulders dislocated, knees sprained, strained and injured.
Sometimes recovery is fairly rapid, but some injuries can take months to recover from. For some surgery is the only option, then the athlete must recover from the surgery. Unfortunately, some injuries leave lasting damage or disability, and chronic pain. But for even this variety of accidents and damage, ultram/tramadol can help. That’s because of the way the medication works to block pain. Not only does it not have the serious side effects of codeine or morphine, it does not have their bitter taste.
Before you begin taking ultram, don’t forget to tell your doctor what other medications you are on, including vitamin and herb supplements.
Ultram shouldn’t be used if you are taking other analgesics, sedatives, anti-depressants, or drugs for convulsions and psychological disorders. It shouldn’t be taken with other drugs or alcohol.
How do opioid painkillers work?
When the back starts to give you problems this may seriously affect any of your activities. Being a key region for most motor functions of the body, the back is both a very strong and a very vulnerable part that can be affected in many different ways. Starting from simple physical trauma to muscle spasms, spine conditions and inflammatory diseases the back can often be the area of both acute and chronic pain. And if you have ever experienced any form of back pain you probably know that it can turn any simple activity like walking, sitting, climbing stairs or laying in bed into a real torture. That’s why knowing about the most common forms of back pain relief is essential for minimizing the impact or this unpleasant health condition. Here are some of the most popular methods for dealing with back pain:
Physical therapy
Physical therapy can be very effective when dealing with various forms of back pain. Because in many cases back pain results from improper posture and the condition of the muscles and the spine, an experienced therapist can eliminate the very causes of back pain in a series of sessions. By manipulating the muscles and other tissue in the affected area a professional can promote faster recovery and minimize the risk of recurring back pain very effectively. However, physical therapy requires you to address only real professionals as the therapy can be harmful if performed by a non-professional.
Painkillers
Painkiller medications are commonly used for relieving back pain. Such popular analgesics as Ultram can effectively eliminate any type of pain regardless of its cause. So doctors prescribe drugs like Ultram quite often to people with back pain problems. You have to understand, however, that using painkiller medications won’t eliminate the actual cause of the pain and it will tend to come back periodically if left unaddressed. If the problem is in a trauma you’ve sustained then the use of analgesics may be just enough. However if the problem is more serious and has already affected different tissues in the back you will need to address a doctor besides using painkillers.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture has become quite popular for addressing various types of pain including those affecting the back. This ancient Chinese method is believed to regulate the flow of vital energy throughout the body by applying needles to specific points in the skin. Traditional medicine was skeptical about the effectiveness of acupuncture before the first results of clinical studies have been published in professional industry magazines, showing that this technique can be very effective for treating a wide range of conditions. Chronic pain affecting the back can also be managed in a series of sessions so you could give acupuncture a try.
Yoga
Another ancient Oriental practice, Yoga, is employed by millions of Americans for the last couple of decades and its popularity tends to increase year after year. There are many different type of Yoga, with various degrees of both physical and spiritual involvement however they are all bound by the same special attitude towards the back. The spine is believed to be the root of life in Yoga and all the practices are aimed at strengthening the back through different postures. Yoga can be very effective for preventing and treating back pain, however it requires you to consult with an experienced teacher. Tell the teacher about your back pain problems in order to choose the right yoga type and focus on the postures that will benefit you the most. The effects may be not as prompt as in case of using drugs like Ultram, but they will be more durable and will benefit your health in overall.
Understanding Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile Dysfunction, also commonly referred to as impotence, is a medical condition that effects thousands of men, keeping them from leading healthy and satisfied sex lives. In fact, statistics have shown that over half of men forty years and older have experienced trouble getting and sustaining an erection. If you or someone you know has experienced erectile dysfunction, then you know how quickly it can weigh you down and hurt your quality of life. Throughout the years various and vastly different treatments have been used to restore normal function in men who suffer with ED. But until the invention and marketing of Viagra, the magical little blue pill, many men believed that ED was just something they would have to learn to live with.
What Exactly is Erectile Dysfunction?
As stated above, erectile dysfunction is what happens when a man has trouble getting an erection and/or maintaining it. When it comes to ED, not every man is going to be affected in the same way. For instance, some men have no trouble getting an erection, but maintaining it long enough to have sex is not possible. On the other hand some men will be able to get an erection but the erection won’t be hard enough. For others still, the issue is that they cannot get an erection at all. For men dealing with any of the issues listed above, having a normal sex life is impossible. While difficulty getting an erection is something most men will face at least once or twice in their lifetime, ED is different. Men with ED constantly struggle with impotence issues. Without medical treatment of some kind, ED is not likely to “get better”.
Why Do Some Men Get ED?
Contrary to popular belief, ED is not just something that only older men experience. There are various causes leading to ED and age is just one of them. Certain medical conditions like high cholesterol, depression, hardening of the arteries, and even diabetes can affect a man’s sexual health and give rise to erectile dysfunction. Other men get ED from the medications that they are taking in order to treat other medical conditions or lifestyle choices they are making. Blood pressure medicine and smoking cigarettes have both been linked to erectile dysfunction. Even if a man is young, healthy, and not taking any medications, he can still end up dealing with the annoyance and embarrassment that erectile dysfunction can cause. As with any other medical condition, much depends on the particular man and his circumstances.
Viagra and Erectile Dysfunction
Since the time that it hit the market in the last 1990s Viagra has become one of the most widely known drugs in the country. Most people who know about the drug Viagra know that it is used to treat erectile dysfunction. But for most people, this is the extent of their knowledge about Viagra. Viagra has been a very successful tool used by many men to improve their sex lives and treat ED. Viagra treats ED by inhibiting PDE5 from blocking healthy blood flow to the penis. In short, Viagra aids the taker to get a healthy erection and maintain it for a normal amount of time. Viagra has already helped millions of men achieve a happy and healthy sex life.
